Antique Persian Serapi Oversize Carpet

A wool pile of symmetric knots on a cotton foundation. This magnificent custom carpet features an ecru field embracing a near-black, herringbone-leaf elliptical wreath, which in turn encloses a raspberry scalloped ogival medallion with a near-black octofoil center motif. The medallion termini display double ragged palmette pendants, while the corners feature near-black quarter medallions. The red border is rendered in a semi–strip style with reversing turtles, rosettes, and broken leaves. The weave is solid and uniform, indicating a workshop of outstanding accomplishment.
